BuddyPress.org

Hi All
I am building a town site at staustelltown.co.uk. As part of this we want to build an email tool that folks can subscribe to and use to promote events, etc for their business or charity. However, I also have a site at staustellcornwall.co.uk and I am wondering whether it would be better to use this to run as a Buddypress site and use this for folks to sign up simply with an email and decide which groups they would subscribe to. Some would be open, Town events etc and some would be closed. Would Buddypress also allow folks to run their own site to promote their business or charity or simply an interest? Would using Buddypress be best for a community site like this please?
