Username Availability

Currently, when someone attempts to register on a site that I am working on, I have it set up so that there is an automatic message as to whether or not their desired username is available.
However, I only have it set to display messages to the extent of: “Congratulations, that username is available” or “Sorry, that username is taken”. I would like to take that a step further, and have it actually display the username that the person has entered. For example: “Congratulations, USERNAME is available”. Does anyone have any insight on this?
