Voting / Polls Plugin for Buddypress Groups Request

Hi! I think this plugin would be really great to have!

I am coming from phpbb forums and users were using it a lot!

I know there is polldaddy, but having native plugin would be useful,

WP-Poll works (but only site wide) as far as I know

but to give the ability for Every Group to create a poll would be sweet! :)

Noone else thinks it is a good idea to have a Poll Extension for Groups?

Polls are old fashioned, I haven’t used one for years.

Perhaps you should post this in the “BP1.2+ Plugin Wishlists” topic.

So, what do you use as an alternative to them?

You don’t? What do you want your groups to use polls for?

Something like what’s the hottest movie right now?

They could easily make a topic in the group forums for that and they’re not restricted to a couple of answers.

Polls are also not part of a social network as you can’t see what users voted for what and users can’t give arguments either, so it’s anonymous. If they also added comments and ratings and stuff to the poll, then maybe it could be something for a social network.

Huh? thats crazy talk. I use polls all the time. And on Facebook my activity streams are always slammed with “I voted for miley cyrus as the best pop star” BS.

Mashable has 50 million page views a month and does weekly polls. Most major sites do.

@kriskl I use the polldaddy plugin. Users can’t create polls unless you are on MU and you allow them access to the plugin. The plugin short codes work in BP activity streams and forums.

That’s what I meant by adding a social touch, then Polls would be usefull again for a social network.

thanks! I feel a bit better now haha

as we also use polls on our site, and before moving to buddypress, I am trying to find solutions for most of our users habits..

the only problem with Polldaddy is it is paid :(

and I would like to keep users on our site,.. not going to polldaddy etc.

so I thought Native Group Polls would be cool to have! :)

having said that i will try polldaddy

    thanks

    by the way,

Polldaddy I think allows 100 polls at a time now. I think you get whit label for $$$.

    @kriskl

yeah, 100 is not enough though :(

so it means we’d have to pay,

Here’s the details for the free PollDaddy account:

    Free
    $0 forever
    100 Survey Responses per Month
    10 Questions per Survey
    Polldaddy Link in Content
    Basic Poll & Survey Reports
    1 User Accounts

A BuddyPress specific poll plugin would be just dandy though.

here is the feedback directly received from PollDaddy.com / Automattic:

BuddyPress should be able to use the Polldaddy WordPress plugin ( https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/polldaddy/ ) but its not officially supported.

ok, polldaddy works great, but no possibility to create a poll on user’s side as i see. isn’t there a poll system compatible to buddypress that allows to attach a poll to an activity? or is there a possibility to have a poll attached to the forum coming with buddypress?

I belong to a social/volunteer group and am currently building a site for us. We’re currently on meetup.com, but want to establish ourselves as a newer, bigger thing. We use polls to allow members to vote on outings and events, like a choice of amusement parks, or volunteer activities. Something simple that would show the options, the vote count and the results would be great. Oh, and single vote per user.

Here’s an alternative that makes the polling more social

It’s one I’ve developed after someone requested it on top of my Facebook polling plugin
