After further testing I have to correct my previous post. It does work as advertised! What was tripping me up was that, logged in as Admin, I was editing a (regular) user’s privacy settings and it appears that Admin is in fact unable to set user privacy settings at the user’s local level, but the user can set them just fine.

3 stars 4 stars 5 stars I can’t get this to work. Admin can set profile privacy in the back end, the ‘Let User Decide’ setting appears to give the user control, but no matter how the user sets their privacy, all their fields are always public. I notice it hasn’t been updated for while, so I’m wondering if there’s a compatibility issue with recent updates to BP?

This is brilliant news, it’s a much needed functionality.
If email could import address book from provider (eg. gmail, hotmail contacts etc.) and the user’s local address book (Mac / PC) that would be an absolute winner!
Really looking forward to whatever you come up with.

I’m using Brajesh’s Global Forums plugin and would really like to achieve the same functionality in those forums as I’m given by your wonderful plugin in the Group forums. Is there any advice you could give me about how I might approach this? Is it possible? Thanks.

Solved my issue. It turned out to be related to directory permissions, and pilot error in not noticing my user avatar directory chmod changed to 755 when overwritten from a local > remote upload. Avatar directories have to be write-enabled for avatars to display… Hope this helps someone.

Doh. It was a permissions issue. Somehow the user avatar directory and its subs had acquired 755 (pilot error, obviously)

Anyway, the point is, if BP custom avatar directories aren’t set to write-enable, the avatars won’t display. Who would know.

Scrap that. The fix is only superficial. It fixed user avatars, but destroyed every other type.

I’ve been following threads about the category selection, and have read advice about setting BP_LINKS_CREATE_CATEGORY_SELECT to true. I’ve scanned the plugin files and database and can’t find reference to this option or function, so am posting in the hope someone could shed some light on how I might do this. Thanks.

Is there any easy way to prevent the description of voting being added to the Activity Stream?

ie. no “bill downvoted sue’s link” etc. So that users can be free to upvote / downvote with anonymity.
