In reply to: Fighting SplogsALso: you may want to install WP-Ban and watch for the IP address of those who are driving you crazy. I suspect we are getting troubled by same punks. If so, feel free to take the list of my banned IP addresses and drop them in the wp-ban section after u install it. I managed to get about 500 attempts blocked in 3 days. Her’s my list so far. http://northafricaadvisors.com/banned-ips/
In reply to: Fighting SplogsBeLogical… I am also unable to beat those suckers. But unless u have tons of registrations, you may want to follow what may be my final option, and that is to install a separate registration form, may be even a simple email form, and then select who I allow in and who I should delete. This means disabling WPMU/Bpress registration at this stage. This way at least, I can check my email in the evening and inform those allowed. Otherwise, I spent my entire week checking my blackberry only to notice a mountain of unwanted blogs. If you are looking for a simple free email form with the ability to include attachments (like avatar), I’ve tested this one and it is just a one minute install and works just fine. http://www.maianscriptworld.co.uk/free-php-scripts/maian-mail/free-contact-form/index.html – At least I may (not sure yet) get spammers in my inbox as opposed to allow them in.
In reply to: Moderating/filtering new registrantsGreat- I will give them a try this weekend. All appreciated.

In reply to: Where to change the orange and pink colors up topI actually read that you need to create a child theme to avoid problems in future upgrades. As much as i’d love to follow that rule, reading the process of creating such child-theme is too technical for me. So I am moving along with what I think are cosmetic changes since I am looking for basic functions. Most of the changes were made in bp-sn-parent, which I probably should not have done it. That’s the drama when you are not so technical.
In reply to: Where to change the orange and pink colors up topThanks Brajesh.
I followed you guidance and got a great deal of improvements, at lease from a color consistency standpoint. On the column width, did you actually mean 3c-left.css, instead of 3c-right? it seems it’s the left column that needs some ‘controlling.’ I think! And for that one, it’s the file that is under /wp-content/themes/bp-sn-parent/_inc/css/layout ?

In reply to: Where to change the orange and pink colors up topHi Brajesh,
To restrict the left column from expanding at will, how can I limit it to a limited width? I think I know where I can do that, just looking for confirmation. Thanks a mil.

In reply to: User called zhanglingjuan114 possible spambot?I installed a plugin called WP-BAN. It is doing a terrific job. In a week it halted about 100 attempts in just 4 days from the list below…. and no more of those… I recommend trying it and use the list below for your list banning.

In reply to: Use Album Plugin or Wait?I don’t know if my contribution is helpful, but I installed NextGen gallery for photo management and wp-greet to run a greeting card mailing module.. all of that works seamlessly on Buddypress.
In reply to: User Blogs use same theme as default BP theme?Well…I am not a pro at all but I managed to uninstall most of the existing themes, and sort of replaced the default theme by the buddypress theme. New users by default end up with the buddypress style, but may have another option as I left another theme as I was afraid to delete everything that was there before. So my recommendation: make sure you maintain a backup of all your stuff. The identify the themes that you don’t like and disable them. Then I think the one you need to focus on is called “default.” It’s a folder called /default in /wp-content/themes/ Then the issue to figure out where the buddypress theme is and put its content in the ‘default’ folder. I am almost sure it will do the trick… but please please… backup your file. Good luck.
In reply to: IE6 and 7 problemQuick update: using keyboard and not a mouse, IE6/7 are responding. Very strange!
In reply to: IE6 and 7 problemHi Jeff- sorry for the missed information. Apologies! I agree I don’t think it’s buddypress issue but I thought someone in the forum would be aware of similar problem whereby a form won’t work under IE6/7.
I have installed the latest version of MU (WordPress MU 2.8.4) and the latest version of Buddypress. I also admit I have many plugins. wp-greet works fine with all the variations of WP/WPMU/Buddypress… seen them in action but for whatever reason IE6/7 just wont do it on my end. Thanks.
Erich73.. this may be a worpressMU issue and someone suggested there was already a TRAC for it. In my case, when someone registers and decides to create a blog, the system allows them to do 2 things: they have control over their own blog… and then they are also able to get into the main blog ADMIN (which is yours) allowing them only to submit postings. So in essence, the posting section of the super-Admin is enabled, though it is moderated, so you can decide to post it on front page. So Andrea_r was very kind to post a reply to my crazy FUD on the WordPressMU site but I have not checked it… anyway, here is the link: https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/13936
thanks r-a-y I installed that one but I think I am facing a bigger problem that is preventing the system to work as intented. Essentially, though I have the site’s “Dashboard blog” ‘user default role’ as “susbcriber” so-called subscribers are automatically tagged as ‘contributors’ on the buddypress menu… In case you are curious, u can log in as user: riski pass: riski123 on http://tatazara.com May be you will discover something I am missing.
Cheers and thanks for your feedback/

By the way: I picked the default role for members as “subscriber” in the “Dashboard blog” but after saving, it won;t even take and default back to “contributor” which I suspect is the problem. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Peterverkooijen… all appreciated. Basic but brilliant. Best of luck with your issue.
Speaking of which, any idea how to grab the members’ data and export them into a CSV, XLS, or whatever format for data mining? I’d love to be able to do members’ profiling based on their registration. I know WP lists the members by name and email address, but not more than that.
Cheers

In reply to: Member directory browsing issue.Thank you sir! Not sure I follow the idea. By deleting, do you mean the entire buddypress and WP? Hum! that would take 2 years out of my life. I am sort of willing to let go of the alphabetical listing… but I don;t recall having moved files around. Standard install.
In reply to: Fake IDs?a quick update: these fake IDs come from the same hosting service http://www.parallels.com The email addresses used generally end with onlq.com or myspacee.info or host-a-site.info – I suppose finding ways to ban them would solve part of the problem.
In reply to: Search fatal error: search/index.php on line 16Good catch! I removed that directory and search is back to normal. However, I noticed that the listing of mmembers using the alphabetical feature is not working. WHen you go to: http://tatazara.com/members and try any letter like F or S for Francis Stevenson, you get the link: http://tatazara.com/members#f but the page stays at /members directory. Any thought?
By the way, your site is fully functional now. Congrats!
In reply to: Search fatal error: search/index.php on line 16Good question, DJPaul. I opened it and looks like a directory from a script called Elgg that has been uninstalled… I will try to remove it and see what it does. Thanks for the hint.
In reply to: Using buddypress Dashboard instead of WP’sThanks folks. Glad to hear I did not miss that one.
