Thanks @boonebgorges
So… do i just make a “child theme” of “BP-Default”? meaning “copy the content of that” into a new folder “myChildTheme” and make that the “child” of “bp-default”

@boonebgorges Hi Boone, quick question, with the external groups blogs plugin. Is it possible to block the posts from the rss feeds from being pushed to the activity stream? Thanks a lot.

I don’t think either has been done, but now that Boone fella with the aberrant ‘B’ has some site access we may be able to change these things.
-
The bbPress register.php file is indeed there, but it doesn’t appear to be web accessible. BP_REGISTER_SLUG is the default ‘register’ on buddypress.org.

A few more that are creating profiles to spam link their description (although with just a few links): meloanorman1, limuya28, smythdanielson, sheffieldsolic

@boonebgorges (I miss the ‘b’ out as well).
I wrote to fannation, and they deleted the offending account straightaway (good on them).
Can we delete the profiles on here for the already identified users?
-
Thanks for the heads up on this.
@hnla It should be pretty straightforward to filter for a certain number of links within a profile and then reject it. I’ll add that to the Ninja list.
-
I thought it wouldn’t be too hard and WP already has this ability floating aound to trap qnt of links.
btw could you remove that ‘b’ as it catches me out each time 🙂
-
An extra ‘e’ in the surname would help as well 🙂
-
Just be easier if he could get a new name altogether :p

Good to see a fast and positive response from the site.
Only the admin can delete profiles, not sure if Boone has this ability now with the increased access granted?

@ellaj – check out this page: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
@boonebgorges, @mercime, @hnla – the Documentation tab needs to be much more prominent, to save us having to keep typing this URL (and the child theme one) in forum threads

@r-a-y In need of a custom plugin developer to add specific functionality to our site; I contacted @boonebgorges but he’s not taking projects, and @nuprn1 is out due to their coming baby. Tight deadline to get someone in place and get started – do you know of anyone who would be interested? You? 🙂

Mostly everyone is busy. Me included 😉
Contact me about your needs via http://scr.im/emailray – if it isn’t too involved, I might be able to help out. -

Thanks @r-a-y and @boonebgorges I have made the loader changes and have contacted the plugin developer. I took a number of computer classes back in HS and under-graduate (20+ years ago) learned how to program in BASIC/COBOL/Pascal/ and C (not + anything). @r-a-y @boonebgorges I made a fairly major change to the Genki Plugin to make it BuddyPress compatible, but am leary to upload it to the plugin repository. This is an extremely useful adapation of the 3 year old/GPL Genki Announcement Plugin for use with BuddyPress (especially the default theme).
I checked the changes on all the major…[Read more]

Hi there – I had a quick look and it looks like it should be a useful plugin.
One big suggestion before putting it in the WP repo. Make sure that you have a separate loader file for the plugin, to ensure that it’s only loaded when BuddyPress is loaded (or, at least, that the BP-dependent functions are located in a different file). See how I do it…[Read more]

I would always try to contact the author of the original plugin before deciding to release a new version.
In a recent blog post, the author stated that his older plugins work for WP 3.0:
http://ericulous.com/2010/05/28/themes-and-plugins-compatibility-on-wp-3-0/Besides Boone’s comments, if the original author doesn’t feel that the new changes…[Read more]
