I fixed that issue by editing the bp-custom.php. However the buddypress profile page sub menu is not appearing. Whether I use bp-custom.php or not. Any ideas?

Yes I have solved it.  I still had discussion forums still enabled in buddypress.  If you uncheck that option the problem with topics in bbpress group forums was gone.

I followed those instructions and just did them again, it still gives the same error.

The buddypress version is 1.21 and can’t be updated. The theme is custom however I changed to the bp default theme and it does the same thing.

I fixed the issue with the redirect, however the activity page is screwed up. It is only showing 1 activity the sidebar and the footer is not showing.

I am trying to place the code on a custom front page I am designing
