In reply to: Notification Management
I haven’t started so I’m not stuck yet. I think I’m going to code in a check box for each notification like you have done, and also a filter to only display certain notifications.
Along with this, I’ll try to add a section to the profile settings that will allow a member to pick what they get notified on, similar to the way you can choose email notifications.
I was just seeing if anyone has tackled this before I set out to do it. I would appreciate seeing your code if you want to post it.
thanks!
In reply to: 2.0 top features – ideas– add collapsing of activity comment replies
– ability to manage notifications (notification bubble). turn off/on individual events AND mass delete and filtering of notification table located in your profile. Deleting one at a time is painful.
In reply to: bp_get_the_thread_recipients() math is wrongdone
In reply to: bp_get_the_thread_recipients() math is wrongEven if you changed ‘recipients’ to ‘participants’ it would still be wrong. Notice the “and you” at the end. If they change to ‘participants’ and removed ‘and you’ then you’re right, its no longer a count/math issue.
In reply to: Edit "Show" Filter on activity streamAre you sure you edited the right one? That file can exist in multiple places depending on a theme or child theme.
In reply to: Edit "Show" Filter on activity streamForgot the second question.
#activity-all { display: none; }Note: I’m not positive that the activity-all id is used elsewhere.
In reply to: Edit "Show" Filter on activity streamI did this by copying/editing /buddypress/activity/index.php in my child theme. Look for the activity-filter-by select tag. All the options are within it.
I use this plugin for that: https://wordpress.org/plugins/private-community-for-bp-lite/
“Makes BP pages private and only accessible to logged in users with the exception of the pages you set.”
In reply to: Help Making Buddypress Profiles private?…Must Login.I haven’t seen a plugin that does exactly what you wanted, but I did test this one for about a week: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-buddypress-user-profile-visibility-manager-give-the-users-control-to-manage-their-account-privacy/
You might be able to install it, have the default setting for viewing members profile set to “logged in users”, then hide it on the front end so members cant change it.
Or, just dig into the bit of code that hides the profile and use that.
In reply to: [Resolved] Hide tabs in activity stream#activity-all { display: none; }
Note that I have no idea if that ID is used anywhere else.

In your child theme, copy/edit buddypress/activity/index.php. Look for<?php do_action( 'bp_activity_syndication_options' ); ?>All the options of that select are below it. Though, I’m a novice. There might be some easier way of doing it.
In reply to: Displaying profile fields in admin users.phpI happen to see this while searching for other plugins. Don’t know anything about it, but it sounds like what you are after: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-profile-view-from-admin/
In reply to: [Resolved] Timestamps in members timezoneCool. It would be a pretty good way to learn how to write a plugin 🙂
In reply to: [Resolved] Timestamps in members timezone@shanebp. I only have it there until the field is added, then I remove it
“Once functions.php is run once, it will add the Time Zone field to the user profile. Once its been added, you can delete everything except the $zones array (you’ll need it later).”
I’m new to wordpress/buddypress so writing a plugin isn’t going to happen anytime soon, but would love to see it done.
In reply to: [Resolved] Timestamps in members timezoneHere’s how I did this.
First, I created the “Time Zone” select box for xProfile by putting the code in the following link into my functions.php file.
http://docs.taptappress.com/buddypress-add-time-zone-list-profile-field/
Once functions.php is run once, it will add the Time Zone field to the user profile. Once its been added, you can delete everything except the $zones array (you’ll need it later).
I then created a new function to look up the users time zone and display the last thread date based on that time zone. Put this in your functions.php file.
function mycustom_get_message_thread_last_post_date() { global $messages_template; $timezone = mycustom_get_member_timezone(); if ($timezone != '' ) { $timestamp = '@' . strtotime($messages_template->thread->last_message_date); $dt = new DateTime( $timestamp ); $dt->setTimeZone(new DateTimeZone($timezone)); return $dt->format('M j, Y, g:i a'); /* format the displayed timestamp however you want */ } else { return bp_format_time( strtotime( $messages_template->thread->last_message_date ) ); } } function mycustom_get_member_timezone() { /** put the $zones array from the first step here. I've left it out to save space in this post **/ return array_search(bp_get_member_profile_data('field=Time Zone'), $zones); }In a child theme, add/edit /members/single/messages/message-loop.php to use your new custom function. There’s two places you need to do this (inbox and sent).
Replace
<span class="activity"><?php bp_message_thread_last_post_date(); ?></span>With
<span class="activity"><?php echo mycustom_get_message_thread_last_post_date(); ?></span>That’s it.
Note: Technically you can do without the array if you want, but I wanted to display the GMT offset to the user instead of ‘US/Alaska’ (for example)
In reply to: [Resolved] Timestamps in members timezoneI came up with something that’s working. I’ll post it once I fully test it, but basically I’ve added a profile field for the member to choose their timezone. Then in my child theme, I call my own function that uses DateTime and setTimeZone to convert the message date to the users timezone. It defaults to the severs timezone if they haven’t supplied their timezone. My users seem pleased with it.
In reply to: 'Notifications' Tab appeared in profile?Sorry it didn’t work out for you guys. Worked perfectly for me, but I’m not using bp-default.
In reply to: I am confused….(notifications, bp-default, etc)See if this helps to fix part of the problem: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/notifications-tab-appeared-in-profile/

In reply to: 'Notifications' Tab appeared in profile?If you want to add support for the new notification tab (show the notifications table), then add
elseif ( bp_is_user_notifications() ) : bp_get_template_part( 'members/single/notifications' );to your themes’s /members/single/home.php file. Look for the following loop and add it there.
if ( bp_is_user_activity() || !bp_current_component() ) :I dont suggest removing the menu tab since members wont have any way of clearing their notifications.
Hope that helps.
In reply to: Orphan notifications if item was deleted.Sorry. Thanks.
I was able to get it to work by reinstalling. Question though, how can I get it to factor in replies of replies? I get several activities that have 50+ comments, but they are usually replies to replies and not to the original post so they dont collapse.
In reply to: Sorting Private Message ThreadsSo, I suppose what’s going on is that its also sorting the threads for each message for the inbox too and using the subject from the last thread. How can I isolate this so it only sorts it DESC when you’re view the message and not in your inbox?
In reply to: Sorting Private Message ThreadsThank you! Works great.
The only issue I’ve noticed is now in my message list, the subject field shows a “Re:” for every time its been replied to. Before this change, it only showed one.
In reply to: Sorting Private Message ThreadsI was able to do this by editing
plugins/bp-messages/bp-messages/bp-messages-classes.php LINE 83
date_sent” . $order,
to
date_sent DESC”,

I tried copying the file to my child theme so it wont break when I update BP. It didn’t work. Is it even possible to do this with that file?
In reply to: Nothing ever changes around here….Its been a few weeks and was wondering if deleting the bbpress issues in the buddypress folder is still the fix for the spambot issue you were having. Thanks!
