<p>did anyone know a better solution for this in BP 2.0.</p>
<p>The above code is still working but it is not ajax. you have to reload the page to see the count.</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve done something approaching in another plugin :bp code snippets, where it&#8217;s possible to add snippet from the front end in forum posts. To do so you need to use shortcode api, a custom request then on the button click use jQuery to paste the shortcode in the textarea.
