Members not showing after they’ve logged in is very weird. So BuddyPress was a new install, rather than a plugin? Have you set the BP_ROOT_BLOG constant?

How many records do you have in your bp_user_blogs database table? Do they correspond with what you see on your website? Do any records look malformed?

There are some bugs with Welcome Pack, yes, but the menu does work. Look in Network Admin > Settings > Welcome Pack

a) Did you test if your WordPress site could send emails before using BuddyPress? e.g. when you go to Add Users in wp-admin and tell it to email the password to the user.

Check that the missing sites’ privacy is set to public (in wp-admin > Settings)

Links hasn’t been updates for a long time, it’s an old plugin. If it still works with 1.5, I expect there would still be things needed to be updated such as this nav menu/item.

BuddyPress’ forums are provided by bbPress, so you may want to search on that.

Part of it got integrated into BuddyPress 1.5, and Ray released another update with further enhancements. I think asking if a plugin is dead is not going to help anyone.
