There are lots of things that could go “a little slow”, and quite a few reasons, too. I’m not sure I can do anything, but if you can record a video of the slow behaviour, that would help explain where/when it occurs 🙂

1.4’s a long, long way off. I suspect true bbPress plugin integration will make it into one of the 1.3.x point releases.

I spent time a while back looking at email addresses as usernames, and other scenarios. Things should work better throughout in 1.3, but some users (dots in username, email addresses in usernames) probably need to set define( ‘BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE’, true ). It should be in most text areas across a BuddyPress site already. You may need to add a few lines of custom JS to get it to hook into your theme. Once I am home this evening, I’ll update this post with details.

The styles try to be as compatible as possible across all themes. It’s picking up some of your custom theme’s CSS (font colouring, possibly the line height, etc). Posting this in two threads isn’t going to make me look at it any quicker.

I’ve seen this stuff happen where a database count key has been set, but the groups have been manually deleted from MySQL (or vice-versa). I’m not aware of any issues in core that would cause this. It’s probably a plugin.
