Figure out the basics of plugins first, https://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_a_Plugin, and then try AJAX https://codex.wordpress.org/AJAX_in_Plugins

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic Screw this… in the group EventPress: 14 years, 11 months ago
I know this is in a plugin’s group, but I’m going to close this topic as I think it’s rude and inappropriate. Kunal can open it again if he wants. The vast majority of people here participate on these forums and contribute to BuddyPress in their own time and without any remuneration. This means that […]

Typically, you start by creating a plugin and go from there. Have you written plugins for WordPress before? Also, what are you trying to do?

You’ll need to turn off debug mode; buddypress prints lots of those at the minute and probably breaks itself. I’m not sure why the menu isn’t appearing.

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic How to manage roles in BuddyPress in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 11 months ago
If someone puts together a good patch, there’s no reason — at this moment in time — why it couldn’t be put in. It’s just of the 50-odd tickets currently in 1.3, and with three core developers, we only have so much time. Because we haven’t started on it, it would be a pretty big […]

I don’t think so, because BuddyPress doesn’t make use of WordPress roles or capabilities yet

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic [Bug Report] Achievements not firing for network subsite actions in the group Achievements: 14 years, 11 months ago
Gravity forms support in general is quite an interesting idea, though that would probably wait for the 2.1+ release, assuming I get a copy of gravity forms, otherwise 2.1 will never get done 🙂

Thanks for the info. I didn’t get time to look this last weekend, as it was the end of first week at my new job, so hope people understand that. I spent a bunch of time getting more fixes done for BP 1.3, too. Quite possibly gravity forms posting misses or doesn’t use whichever event […]

Yeah, believe it or not I think I’ve added that in my local copy months ago but didn’t release it. I will try to look at it this week or at the weekend.

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic Reset buddypress cache? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 11 months ago
There’s no cache (only WordPress’) but the activity stream content is written once into the database. You’ll have to go into the database, bp_activities table, and make changes manually.

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic Private message not received in the group Welcome Pack: 14 years, 11 months ago
It should work. I mean, if it’s not sending the private message inside BuddyPress, something’s sadly broken. I assume you’ve actually enabled the Private Message component in BuddyPress? (It’s enabled by default).
I’ll have a test this weekend

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic How can I use the 'hide_sitewide' function to hide certain activity types from showing up in the Sit in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 11 months ago
Hi poor designer Actually, hide_sitewide is used for two different things. Check https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2293#comment:10 for some detail. I’d recommend against touching it because it’s so fiddly at the moment, and instead work on filtering something appropriately. If no-one else beats me to it this evening, I’ll have a look where in the…[Read more]

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic Threaded comments not indenting in BuddyPress Default 1.2.7 theme in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 11 months ago
The style’s just missing from BP-Default 1.2.x. We’ve fixed this in the upcoming 1.3 version. In the interim, you’ll just need to figure out what div or ul elements need indenting, and add some margin.

Probably caused by Template Pack being out of date. Can you create groups etc if you revert to BP-Default theme?

Paul Gibbs posted on the forum topic !Security Risk! – forum posts are "promiscuous." Even private posts are not private. in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 11 months ago
Not aware of any current issues regarding this. We have fixed a situation where when a private group’s member could favourite an item, which then any other site member could view that single item by going to the group member’s profile and viewin their favourites. This is going to become BuddyPress 1.2.9 this weekend. If […]
