How can I get the member ID of the user on a member profile so that I can show a list of posts by that user. So for example: domain.com/members/cameron/

and then in the page: how do I get that author ID? THANKS

On my home page where all my blog posts are I want to show the avatar of the author and then link it to the members profile so for example: domain.com/members/cameron.

I have managed to get the avatar showing, just need to grab the url: <a title="View profile for " href=""></a> Can anyone help? Thanks.

So what are the core developers thoughts then? I think it’s important to do something about all this soon as just releasing 1.3 with the whole pages system and then 6 months down the line changing it to something else just sucks.

Using pages for such functionality is a hack. @MrMaz I like the idea of BuddyPress being split up, but not as a theme, I think it should remain a plugin, but just not so robust. @Travel-Junkie deleting the pages isn’t a problem. Using pages in the first place is the problem. It’s just bad development!

Content types sound interesting as Members, Groups, Forums etc are all types of content. Would be good to hear some input from the main developers and would be good to get this changed before releasing 1.3 and having everyone create fake pages.

Yes pages can be deleted, but that’s not the big problem, rather the fact that the plugin uses pages at all to accomplish something so simple. What was wrong with the current system? Sounds interesting. I’m not sure I fully understand the need for both actions, could you by any chance show a quick code example of how I might go about doing this when you get a moment. Would be much appreciated, as I’m hoping to begin developing the project sometime in January and need all the help I can get. Thanks for the reply.

  This would require some custom code being written. You could use the ‘dpa_achievement_unlocked’ action for example, and use the passed achievement_id to check against a (hardcoded?) list of Achievements which you would want to switch the member’s role for.

  Sorry for the late reply. It could be added reasonably quickly via some custom code; it’s a bit of a niche thing for the main plugin to do. You’d use the “dpa_achievement_unlocked” action in the dpa_maybe_unlock_achievement() function. Let me know how you get on!
