I can’t explain why, get_objects_in_term() is a core function and the parameters it receives, are correct,
all I can suppose some plugin is doing some nasty things there.

@ebar, there’re no tables, the plugin is only BuddyPress/WordPress API. Courses are saved as custom post type, users are users, and roles are managed by Profile Fields from BuddyPress.
