renaming the folder from bp-profile-search to profile-search didn’t do anything for me. i had to reactivate the plugin and then the link under “BuddyPress -> Profile Search” didn’t even show up. Manually entering http://example.com/wp-admin/search-settings didn’t do anything for me either.

The steps I followed are:
1- deactivate the plugin;
2 – change the folder name;
3- reactivate the plugin.Actually I found a number of folder names *not working* and a number of folder names *working*, and I can’t understand why…

It changes that link to the correct form, that is http://example.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=search-settings

looks like the admin page isn\’t working — http://example.com/wp-admin/search-settings leads to a 404

That’s weird… Apparently it depends on the plugin folder name, bp-profile-search. If I rename it to profile-search, it works. Any thoughts?
