I’ve just woken up to find an auto-update to BP 12 has completely broken groups functionality on a client site. E.g. the main groups page is now post type ‘buddypress’ instead of ‘page’, so it’s no longer in the main nav. Lots of others breakages.

I think the issue with buddypress is the same it always had, you had 2 choices, make a rock solid basic social framework (like wordpress is for blogs) and then expand with plugins, or make a solid all in one product that can be extended with plugins, the problem is that buddypress was never one or the other, it was always a mix of…[Read more]

@hanza3 multiple layouts can be created for profile view and it can be wrapped with membership conditions. We had tried a similar approach to our BuddyPress theme which offers members to choose their profile layout from their profile and site admin can also set the default layout for members. With some customization, it can be used with membership levels.
