This happens because of BuddyPress, we’re using their activity stream features. If you want to modify the way the activity stream works, you’ll need to work with the core developers in the general support forum.

Embedded video will not be released until version 0.1.9. When we release it, all the user has to do is paste the URL into a box and click “post”, the plugin handles the rest, just like Facebook.

I just posted a fix on the SVN trunk. If you replace the file called “bp-album-screens.php” with this one, it should correctly handle files with upper-case extensions.
