Certainly possible from a technical point of view. There could be issues with spammers abusing it though.
How are Facebook and Flickr handling mobile uploads? I don’t think they use a dedicated app do they?

Release 0.1.8.8 requires minimum WP 3.1 and BP 1.2.8 …does it work properly on your system with these versions installed?
Thanks!

@modemlooper Okay, fair enough …but it seems that Android can natively upload to Album+, as reported by @chestnut_jp “Accessing to …/album/upload/ by inputting the url in the address bar manually takes you to the upload page, and you can properly upload the picture.” Perhaps you could verify this on your mobile and, if correct, not hide the […]

@finni3 Maybe you’re getting a different version, but when I retrieved this page, it says the bug was closed in 2009 and the patch has been released to production. Also in the first message in this thread, @chestnut_jp notes that he was able to upload a file from his mobile browser when he directly accessed the upload […]

Sounds like it’s time to upgrade to an Android-based platform.
I’ll hit-up @modemlooper on Twitter.

I just posted a fix on the SVN trunk. If you replace the file called “bp-album-screens.php” with this one, it should correctly handle files with upper-case extensions.
Thanks!

@chestnut_jp Not being able to see the source code is very annoying. Perhaps if you modified the main WP templates to not include the HTML header, the mobile phone would display all of the other code to screen instead of rendering it as a web page. If our plugin is correctly displaying the upload link when […]

Spoke too soon …it’s bp_core_check_avatar_type() that is causing the problem, and exactly as you described.
Thanks so much for the tip! …we’ll code-around this defect until the BuddyPress team gets it resolved.

@chestnut_jp The first question is “how does a mobile phone upload an image”? If most mobile phones can emulate how a conventional web browser transfers an image to the server (as opposed to using some kind of mobile-specific protocol) then it should be very easy to make our plugin work with mobile phones. The second question […]

@r-a-y I just checked the code, and in 0.1.8.x we’re directly calling wp_handle_upload() and it’s WordPress’s function that’s throwing the error …so at this point it looks like it’s *WordPress* that will not let you upload a file with capital letters in the extension (perhaps because of a new config parameter?) …more info as we continue […]

Its your template doing that, not BP-Media. You’ll need to modify your template’s structure and/or edit your CSS files to get the image to either scale or expand within the column.

@VegasParty607 @suchaqd @mercime Kaltura BuddyPress Media Component is a plugin by the India-based firm rtCamp. Their plugin has some of the features of BP-Media, and also has streaming video, but users require a Kaltura hosting account or a local kaltura media server to use it, even just for images. For any more than a trivial amount of traffic,…[Read more]

Set the image size to a huge value …say 5000 pixels. The plugin will not resize an image unless it exceeds this value.

When we do remote debug over Skype, the remote user just shares their desktop video with us. We tell them what to type, and they drive, so they’re always in control of their system. Its not like we log-in remotely using your root password or anything… lol

@oceanwidedesigns Please provide one or more links to pages demonstrating the problem, so we can try and figure out what’s going on. If you’re really serious about debugging this one, contact me via Skype “carl.roett” and we can set up a time for me to login remotely and do some testing on your server. Thanks! […]

@rdevarona What that means is they changed something in WP 3.1 or BP 1.2.8 so that the correct error message isn’t getting sent back to bp-album. In otherwords, “Please upload only JPG, GIF or PNG photos.” really means “Please upload only JPG, GIF or PNG photos, under X megabytes in size”, where “X” is the max […]
