@Andrea_r The goal is to limit: 1) Spam PM’s 2) Spam friend requests 3) Spam comments 4) Spam group creation 5) Spam group posts Once a spammer / troll / hostile has created a member account on the system. The goal is NOT to stop: 6) Spam comments on blog posts from non-members. -> Already handled […]

Sounds good to me. Give me a day or so to put some thought into it, then I’ll post a more structured proposal.

Seven spam PM’s. From five different users. In the past 24 hours. And they’re getting clever too …they’ve found a defect that allows them to delete the backlink to their profile from the message, making it harder to come after them. I was always shocked by the lack of spam control features on BuddyPress, and […]

@joymab Wow. FIVE different spam PM’s just today.
Well, I think by this point it’s obvious somebody has written a “bot” to attack BP installations.
Come on core devs! Get this dealt with!

True, but a moderation plugin won’t stop someone from launching a “flood attack” against a BP site …where an attacker “scrapes” the user directory to get all the member names, then uses a bot to hit the AJAX URL the button uses and bulk-posts PM’s to half a million members.
That’s probably what just happened here.
And it’s probably because…[Read more]

@aminababy I’m astonished that BuddyPress has no functionality whatsoever for blocking spam attacks like this one. A spammer can literally PM every member on the site and there is no functionality to stop them!

Yeah, right now it requires some low-level theme hacking like removing the private message button if the displayed user is not a friend of the logged-in user.
However, Francesco is working on a moderation component (as I’m sure you know!)

Could you be a little more specific?
What version of BP Album+?
What is the “Upload Thing” doing?^F^

In the current release version (0.1.7) and the current beta version (0.1.9.2) the upload page is generated inside the plugin core. Which means the only way you can modify it is with jQuery.
But… it will be generated using a template in the *release* version of 0.1.9, so it will be fully editable.

@paulhastings0 Just use version 0.1.7, currently on the WordPress plugin repo. It’s reasonably stable and thousands of people are using it on their sites. As for when version 0.1.9 will be ready for full scale distribution, that’s difficult to predict. Software development is a nonlinear process. It’s not like we compile a list of features, know […]

@bplove Basically, use version 0.1.7 from the WordPress plugin repo. It works properly, is reasonably reliable, and it will update properly at the next release. Do not use the 0.1.8 beta, because it doesn’t use the new file storage scheme and we’re not writing an updater for 0.1.8 because you’re not supposed to be using it […]
