RE: https://buddypress.org/showcase/
I clicked around the first 5 showcase sites (excluding the german one), and they all run faster than our BP install. Guess there’s hope for BP after all.
Wonder what makes those sites run so fast? If it’s a cache plug-in, would love to know which one they use. We use “Hyper Cache” and it’s not cutting it for us.
Sorry, it’s behind a private firewall. Users need to authenticate through our enterprise-wide authentication system.
We’re a large institution and I manage my own dedicated server.

Activated MySQL Query Cache — no performance improvement experienced.
BP still running very slow.
Continuing to search for solutions…
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress Performance`W3 Total Cache` caused my site to performance more poorly than `Hyper Cache` did.
Backing out W3TC and re-installing HC.
Ughh… this is so frustrating because we have put a lot of work and effort into our system and all that our user community can share with us is “it is too slow”..
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress PerformanceThanks @PaulGibbs
I will look into object cache shortly.
In meantime, I want to install W3 Total Cache. I have read where too many plugins can drag down a WP/BP Site (not sure if that is just active plugins or the presence of both activated and deactivated plugins). If I have `W3 Total Cache` running, do you think I also need the following plugins?
`Better Delete Revision
Hyper Cache
WP DB Optimizer`Also, do you have any comments on where bets to install the plugins? Some of my plugins are installed at the Network Admin site and then “Network Activated”, while other plugins are installed on the BuddyPress site.
And finally, do you know if you are running object cache and/or W3 Total Cache on this BP Support Site? It is just as slow as the site I am running.
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress PerformanceHi @PaulGibbs — any thoughts or insights based on the answers I provided to your questions?
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress Performance9 Groups: I looked at the number of rows in the bp_groups MySQL Table and there are 9 rows. That happens to match the Groups counter value when I go to the Groups page in my BP site.
1,157 Activities: I looked at the number of rows in the bp_activity MySQL Table and there are 1157 rows. Not sure where else to get the number of activities.
As for object caching, I am still waiting on community feedback as to how I can determine if I am using object caching.
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress PerformanceOk @PaulGibbs — where or how do I get:
a) activity item count?
b) group count?
c) whether I am using group cache?Sorry…I just explored my WP Dashboards and could not find a place that documents that.
In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress PerformanceI am viewing page requests and following the headers as they come back to my local machine. I can see where the page request goes out to the server, lightning fast. Then the process works in the background from anywhere between 2 to 5 clock seconds before bringing the page back.
So there is some page construction issues that I need to dig deeper into.
If anyone has gone down this path and knows of solution(s) please post here for other Buddies to benefit from.
Ok, I got to the bottom of this (sort of).
My need and request ends up being a duplicated need requested 3 years ago (see https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/501)
So it looks like we have to live with the static Mystery Man graphic hard coded into BP.
The work around is to overwrite the BP Mystery Man graphic each and every time you upgrade your BP.

In reply to: [Resolved] CSS Not Responding To EditsHey @Ben,
If you have never tried or seen this trick in Firefox — hit CTRL+SHIFT+i
You’ll go into inspect mode and there you can hover over block elements on the page and see the exact ID’s and Classes for your styles.
You can then use your theme’d style sheet to control styles by tagging “!important” (which you seem to be doing). It just might be that you are not capturing the right ID’s and Classes.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to remove activity since 1 hour agoNo prob Cal (@mastermind12). Just remember to store the code below away because you will need to reapply it the next time, and every time, you upgrade BuddyPress. Once you have your own theme, you can put this in a style sheet called `style.css` in your themes directory and you will always hide the “bubble”.
`/* removes the activity bubble from buddypress */
ul#members-list span.activity {
display:none !important;
}`In reply to: [Resolved] How to remove activity since 1 hour agoNo @mastermind12 — those 2 style sheet (.css) files are not coming into play on your Member’s Directory page.
Paste it to the bottom of `/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css` although you will need to repeat this paste each and every time you upgrade the BuddyPress plugin.
In reply to: How to Hook into the Primary Profile Field [Closed]So @shawn38 if I understand your comment back to me correctly — 1.5.6 does not provide the Field Description text box, but 1.6.* does?
Side note: I read bad, bad things about 1.6 so I am avoiding upgrading at this time.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to remove activity since 1 hour agoOk @mastermind12. Then the css I gave you should work.
Can you post back the exact file you added the code too including its path.
Can you also post back a copy of what you added please.
It will help me/us properly troubleshoot.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to remove activity since 1 hour agoIf you are referring too the activity bubble on the Members Directory page, then do this:
add the following line of code to the `style.css` document in your themes directory:
`ul#members-list span.activity {
display:none !important;
}`if you are referring too a different activity bubble, then let us know which one exactly.

In reply to: How to Optimize and Maximize BuddyPress PerformanceWe have done the following to help our BuddyPress along:
(1) Added this code to wp-config.php
`/**
* source: http://wpdude.com/wordpress-performance-tuning-tips
*/define(‘ENABLE_CACHE’, true);`
(2) Followed Michael Eisenwasser’s suggestions located at http://www.buddyboss.com/buddypress-speed-and-performance/
(3) installed and run “Optimize Database” plugin
(4) installed and run “Hyper Cache” plugin
(5) installed and run “Better Delete Revision” plugin
In reply to: How to Hook into the Primary Profile Field [Closed]Thanks @shawn38.
I am running WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.5.6
In my installation there is no `Profile Fields` in the Dashboard > Users navigation path.
The manner in which I get to `Profile Fields` is Dashboard > Buddy Press > Profile Fields
The page ends up being “Extended Profile Fields” and under the “Base (Primary)” tab and I click the Edit button for Name (Primary) (Required) there is no Field Description box like there is on all the other profile fields.
Do you think I have a faulty or incomplete install going on here?
Appreciate your help…
In reply to: How to Hook into the Primary Profile Field [Closed]Has anyone ever tried this?
Any Guru’s out there? I think the ability does not exist so I created a Trac enhancement ticket request.
This plugin works perfectly –> https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/email-users/
I tested it and it does email everyone user @joelshakespear
