The problem @venutius found earlier was due to a conflict with another plugin. This will be resolved in the next version.

Yeah bbp is usually the prefix used for bbPress functions, so when you see it, think of bbPress. BuddyPress uses bp instead.

Also, just to add, when you see a prefix preceded with an underscore _ such as _bbp_activity_id, it usually means that particular function or variable is intended for internal use, and isn’t really part of any API offered.…[Read more]

Like @venutius said, this is likely to be theme related. Considering the theme is premium, nobody here can see the code in order to try and help. You should open a support ticket on the plugin’s support website.

I’m still not getting any emails

You won’t get emails. Only “web” notifications are issued. That’s intentional because for large websites which have many groups with 1,000s of members each, it would put too much strain on the website’s email server. In contrast, “web” notifications are handled with ease.

Surely it should send to the group creator?

The creator is a group admin (group admins are slightly different to group moderators).

Do you have moderators set up in the group that you’re testing in? If not, the @mod command won’t send notifications.

@venutius you may have spotted a bug! Can you try again with @group and @mod (both lowercase)?

@venutius you’ll need to ensure the activity, groups and notification components are all activated. Of course, BuddyPress also needs to be installed.

Within a group, if you create an activity update or comment with the text @group, everyone in that group will get a web notification. The same goes for @mod, but in that case only moderators within…[Read more]

Yep, that’s intentional but I agree it may not be a wise idea and is something I’d consider changing if things get crazy.

I just wanted to let everyone come to the party and if a party goer misbehaves, hopefully a mod or admin can step in. 🙂

I haven’t tried it but there’s also BuddyPress Compliments.

I’ve just finished building Crowdmentions. Currently the @group and @mod commands are supported when used within a group context. I’ll be adding support for more commands going forward, such as @friends.

Are you sure he wasn’t using a tagging plugin? Alternatively he could have been referring to @-mentions.

For example, this @bahamamom66 is an @-mention which kind of “tags” you.

There is limited spam potential, but if groups have mods mods can ban / restrict membership. And the plugin would only be used by those who thought the benefits outweighed.
