Thank you both! I found under Settings > General,

Membership > Anyone can register

and ticked the box. That fixed it! Holy moly I was pulling my hair out! Thank you so much!

OK… where do I find “admin > options”?

I’ve got the BuddyPress dashboard dropped down and “options” isn’t an option…

I’ve set up my BuddyPress on http://thegoddessforum.com and imported most of what I could from the old Ning forum. The old Ning members are gradually coming and getting their passwords re-set.
