Jeff Sayre posted on the forum topic Buddypress roles in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 1 month ago
With the limited exception of BP groups, BuddyPress offers only one role — that of user. The forums are controlled by bbPress code, integrated into BuddyPress, but it’s bbPress that is in control of offering additional roles. Even when bbPress is relaunched as a WordPress plugin, forum roles will still be controlled by bbPress. BuddyPress […]

That is correct. As it currently stands, BuddyPress does not offer any way to provide RBAC. If BP ever integrates roles into its core, then that could be used to turn my BuddyPress Privacy Component into a full-fledged RBAC. Until that happens, there is no practical way to do it.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking as anything created in BuddyPress is technically user-generated content. The BuddyPress Privacy Component (BPPC) offers users privacy control of BuddyPress specific content–in other words content unique to BP’s control.
However, I assume you’re referring to what is generally termed Role-based Access Control…[Read more]

Jeff Sayre started the forum topic BuddyPress Has Two New Core Committers! Congratulations to @DJPaul and @boonebgorges ! in the group Miscellaneous: 14 years, 1 month ago
Hot off the press (okay maybe 18-hours old), @johnjamesjacoby made the historic announcement at WordCamp NYC that the BuddyPress Core Committer team has grown by 200%. @DJPaul and @boonebgorges have each been promoted to the exalted role of BP Core Committer. With this promotion comes a zero increase in pay (hey, no one gets paid here). But, along […]

Jeff Sayre posted on the forum topic Privacy Comes to BuddyPress (very soon)! in the group Third Party Components & Plugins: 14 years, 1 month ago
@thekmen The component has been overly tested by a few people at various stages now. The code is stable and ready for primetime. Also, some people who I sent previous copies to never provided feedback, so it was my decision to release it into the wild rather than beg for feedback. As with all my plugins, […]

And as I simply responded to a posting on my activity stream, I did not see that this was a forum for a plugin. So, I’ve inadvertently hijacked Boone’s forum. Sorry.
Please continue any discussions about the upcoming BuddyPress Privacy Component here.

@r-a-y is correct. This is not an issue of privacy. Privacy is about offering users the ability to control access to their data.

Great! Then your expectations are more than likely accurate. I wanted to err on the side of being too helpful (and maybe a little bit of a pain in the you know what) just in case you did not have the experience necessary to make such a estimate.

A quick observation. When looking to hire a designer or developer, you should not state your time expectations for the project (i.e. ”shouldn’t take more than a 3 days”). That often raises a red flag and turns away potential vendors. Unless you can only afford 3-days of work or have a lot of experience designing or coding, then you should not m…[Read more]

Jeff-
This is true. I just wanted to state a time limit / expertise expectation so that vendors can assess their bandwidth for taking on the project. I have experience coding (7 years) early in my career — but I now focus on other aspects of business. Although I am assuming certain aspects of the complexity. I count on strong vendors to…[Read more]

A quick search with the proper terms will bring up a number of options. This post in this thread should help. Once my BuddyPress Privacy Component is out in the wild, you will be able to easily do this with a simple radio button selection in the Site Admin menu of the component.

Very cool. I guess we can’t be ticked anymore.
function i_am_ticked() {
global $bp, $whose_ticked;if( $whose_ticked == 'you' && $bp->backticks != false ) {
echo "We're sorry, you can no longer be ticked";
} else {

That’s actually a very helpful explanation Jeff. What it means for me is that any bp component that I activate (minus groups) will be available to anyone on the bp network. This is important since our site is built on a distinction between “official” and “community” content. That means that if I want RBAC control over content creation, I ought to…[Read more]
