If you mean the theme is saving your options most themes with options will add a line in you database table for those options. That is how it remembers.

It sounds a bit dramatic but removal all themes leaving default – copy to safe place if need. If that doesn’t work try same process with plugins then build up again.

Do you have the template pack on for BuddyPress? Some themes don’t need it.
