Just my two cents but alphabetical to me would just be on name not on other fields also. Others may have different opinions but to me just being on name makes sense as a default 🙁

Are you using the default theme? I say this as in the header there is a search along with on the member pages. Perhaps you can confirm what theme and maybe provide a link so I can take a look?

Assuming you’ve made it as a page template and assigned it then you want to go under settings > reading and there you can set the pages for the front and also blog posts.

Are you using a theme or a custom theme for this? Would help in narrowing down the issue to also have a link to your site – it’s a little hard to give a response otherwise without knowing everything.

Can we have a sanity check with a test n your site using the default BuddyPress theme? I know it can be a big ask just like in this case to see if that helps find out if theme or function so to speak.

Any BuddyPress page can be referenced in the child theme so you can still make use of the structure and update. If not usually you can get around things with a function.
