    @kris35

    I found it much easier to build BP with a specific BP theme. All the groups and forums and profiles etc are layed out much much better than the default BP plugin. 🙂

    Hi Ben, yes I thought BP specific themes worked to make the layout easier, although I understand the layout can be done fairly easily with a regular WP theme.

    Ok thanks danbp. I was thinking the customisation would be built into a BP theme but thats not the case so will stick with what I’ve got I reckon. I’ve looked at loads of BP sites, includng the links above already but I was curious to know if these were BP themed sites, but most are regular WP themes with coding yes?

    I would have thought this was something that would be really popular for a Buddypress site because finding people in certain areas is what a lot of social networks need. Im going to have a look at some BP sites and see what they are doing. There must be something for this surely – although seems not as am sure you ahve searched for yourself. Maybe need to get someone to code it for me. Thanks again, you put a lot of effort into trying to help me.

    Hi @1a-spielwiese,

    Thanks for this. I had a look on your registration page where you have a few countries for members to select, but when I choose one, the same dropdown menu appears. Im not using any plugin at the moment – just the extended profiles in the components of Buddypress at the top of the list which includes checkboxes for activity streams, friend connections etc. I don’t want to use a plugin that hasn’t been updated in two years either.

    If I go to Users>Profile fields, this is where I was hoping to do this but the only way I can see to do it is to add, UK, then a list of counties. USA and then a list of states, and so on which would mean I would have a list a mile high of all the different countries and local areas.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Kris

    Also, do most people use a Buddypress theme or a regular WP theme?

    Ahhhh thankyou Hugo. Will let a coder do this for me: I can barely get by with HTML. That link is useful so thanks for posting it. 🙂

    I mean, is that 20 hours work or two? Roughly. I have no idea how to code so don’t know how long a job like that will take. Is it simple CSS or something else that is needed does anyone know?

    Thanks,

    Kris

    @bp-help

    Thanks. I will have a look around the site and see what others are using. Im assuming most people do use the default Buddypress reg. Urgh I am rubbish at this stuff. Thanks. 🙂

    Hi @bp-help,

    Yes I have, but I am so busy with other stuff at the moment I just wanted to know if I can stick to the buddypress reg for now? I mean, I have no idea if I did that and gained say 100 members and decided to start charging – how difficult would it be? Could I just export (or whatever) my members out and switch over to a payment option like s2member? And then in the future I can start to research payment registration options. I dont even know if I can add a payment (Paypal tab) to the default Buddypress sign up page? I guess I can right?

    OMG just hired a BP “expert” on Elance and said Id installed BP but could see no way of chatting and assumned Id need a chat plugin. Was questioning it cos how can you have a group area but nowhere to chat. He agreed I needed a chat plugin and offered three solutions but I thought it was a bit suspect so came in here. Got it shanebp lol, you are great!!
