Hi, I’m puzzled why the Buddypress registration process only supports lowercase letters and numbers, while WordPress does support uppercase letters, underscore, hyphen in its usernames. Could anyone explain why BuddyPress forces username to be in lowercase / numbers only? When creating WordPress users, we can add uppercase, hyphens… So why does BuddyPress have this limitation, and how can it be removed?

I have a similar environment to Andij: BuddyPress on top of WordPress (3.0b2), no subblogs, upgrading from 1.2.3 to 1.2.4. Still customizing the BP_AVATAR_URL was not enough for me.
