This is looking great @francescolaffi. It’s really needed in BuddyPress. Many thanks.
I was wondering if it would be difficult to make it behave like Digg voting, in the sense that a pre-set number of ‘dislike’ flags automatically removes a post/comment from view? That way a community could moderate itself, with admin just setting how many flags…[Read more]

lincme started the forum topic Image posting problems in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 5 months ago
We’re using WP 3.0 with BP 1.2.4.1, and Lightbox Plus 1.7; all the latest versions. Inserting images into a page in WP was fine before installing BP, but now when I post an image I get as far as clicking the ‘Insert image’ button in the WP image chooser, and the screen goes white. To […]

@Kevin; Needed a break, so had a look around and found your posts. Our avatars work fine in IE8, but those on your site don’t, so it’s probably your CSS. (They’re fine in Google Chrome Dev, too). Sleep and a fresh look helps! 😉

@orenshmu Just posted in the Review section for your ‘BP plugin’;
We really dislike misrepresentation. It says FREE very obviously, and of course turns out to be a ‘spam plugin’ when you look into it, as the gallery hosting has to be paid for.
We feel that BuddyPress.org @admin should ban these plugins unless they tell the truth up-front.

lincme posted on the forum topic Make admin bar take its own space and stay static in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 5 months ago
@thegreyspot; I’m working from memory here, but I think what you want might be; #wp-admin-bar { position: fixed !important; top: 0; } Not sure, as I chopped the stupid admin bar out weeks ago. It just confuses technophobes, who appear to be 98% of Internet users when it comes down to it. Also, removing it from […]

lincme posted on the forum topic users complaining in the group Requests & Feedback: 14 years, 5 months ago
@Erich73; We find having an @ mention name and a full profile name useful, as long as they don’t clash and cause confusion. The ‘usernames-only’ plugin from @r-a-y takes care of that. We hope to include business members, so provision for their ‘business card’ name is essential, but only on their profile and pages they pay […]

lincme posted on the forum topic Is bp dying a slow death? in the group Miscellaneous: 14 years, 5 months ago
We recently tested and (we think…) have settled with WP3+BP for a site. Our only thoughts are that BP should be much simpler, and as others have said, have more clearly defined objectives and uses. And of course, be optimised for speed and reliability. Not asking much from a freely available Open Source project, eh..? […]

We haven’t got far enough with our BP site yet to notice any such behaviour, but just wanted to thank you for your work @r-a-y.

lincme posted on the forum topic how to change settings page template in the group Creating & Extending: 14 years, 5 months ago
@sj; I discovered that it’s not always the obvious file. Windows Vista’s internal file search fails me for some reason, so I downloaded a freeware tool called Agent Ransack, which hunts through folders and files very quickly. I search inside files for text labels on-screen, and always find the relevant template(s).

lincme posted on the forum topic Enable Buddy Press on existing themes in the group Installing BuddyPress: 14 years, 5 months ago
@ajamison5579; We’ve had some fun with themes too, and just getting used to what exactly is WP controlled, and what’s BP controlled! (Bit of a nightmare, to be honest, but it all seems to work ok in the end). To use a standard theme you need the BP Template Pack (at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/). In the end I […]

Ok; this seems to work fine. In the file bp-like.php, find the following line and comment it out as so;
/* bp_activity_add( array( ‘action’ => $action, ‘component’ => ‘bp-like’, ‘type’ => ‘activity_liked’, ‘user_id’ => $user_id, ‘item_id’ => $activity_id ) ); */
Everything works as before, but no activity is recorded. 🙂

I agree – I would love to have a setting option for this – if enough people flag it, it gets pulled from activity stream –
It would also be great to have a set of users who had a good reputation in the system, or have been given a higher status somehow – that if two of them (or whatever changeable setting) flagged something, it would just get…[Read more]
thanks for the feedback, automated actions is something i planned but did not make it in this version.
@francescolaffi; That would be the coolest thing yet for Buddypress. All it would have to do is have a setting for how many ‘abuses’ pull the post/comment, with the pulled ones showing in WP back end so they could be checked by admin now and then.
It would give real meaning to a community, and share responsibility greatly. Spam could also be…[Read more]
