permalinks are set to Default Value

i’ve this sentence:
“BuddyPress is almost ready. You must update your permalink structure to something other than the default for it to work.”
but i don’t know what it is

I installed wp 2.9.1 and 1.2.5 buddypress.
as the previous thread, the menus do not work.
I’m on my server.
