Thanks @r-a-y. Will disable the plugin for now. I did find that if I added the short YouTube link the video would display.

@r-a-y I’ve been used oembed for a while and really enjoy it. In fact, I donated to the plugin I’ve been so happy with it. But recently many of my YouTube links just stopped working: they display the link as text, not the video. And it’s random as to which videos oembed display and which it just shows the text for. Also, just realized formatting for bulleted and numbered lists is off. After the first line, the text wraps to the beginning of the paragraph, not underneath the bulleted text. Figured it out, for my purposes, I’m using the ScholarPress plugin, which makes it much easier. I actually created the multi-site setup and found it was far more than I wanted to maintain.

Easiest way for a non-geek to embed video into BuddyPress. Saved me hours of searching for the “right” plug-in, testing, etc. You don’t even have to add the video using the WordPress video link: you just type the URL as plain text, and when you display the page, post, or Activity stream, voila – there’s your video.
