Works fine for me on 3 different sites. Are you using a custom theme? I only test my plugins on BP-default

It may be actual humans signing up. People get paid pennies to sign up and spam forums. So, unless you verify every account before letting them in you can never remove all spammers.

If a component is deactivated then that drop down link is not shown.

Go into the plugin file and edit term “profile”. Then remove the members tab linking to the member directory in the wordpress admin

BP uses its own registration but every user is signed up to the WordPress blog BP is installed on. Most WP plugins work with BP. You should do your own testing to verify.

Dig into the who’s online widget code. It will show example of how to show user avatar but you can replace that with another image.
