Maybe I was confusing things. Nevertheless, I do not get an email about site-wide notices published. When I login I can see the notification on the bp nav bar, but no email.

I noticed that “X wrote a blog post in Y” does not get translated either in the activity stream. I have no problem with 99% of the localized strings, but this remains in English even though it has a translation specified.

Hmm, funnily enough my impression/experience is different. BP Group Email Subscription may be working ok sending emails, but if I do not request emails from this plugin, I won’t receive any notification emails for my forum topics from core BuddyPress. i am not a developer just someone using BuddyPress. I think the reason your activity stream is still in English, because activity items are saved into the database in the language that is in use at the time of the event.
