I have assigned the pages and im still getting 404 page not found any suggestions.

I have the ftp program set to show hidden files i also checked the file manager on the control panel and its not there either allthough when i changed the permalinks structure it save it so i guess its there somewhere.
il go check if the pages are assignd.

I have everything set back up again but the .htaccess file is not there allthough i updated the permalink structure and it saved should I create one?

Ok i tried to move the installation to its own subdirectory and now i cant access it, so my question is ive i reinstall it to a sub directory rather than the root will that be ok and get rid of the need to move everything?

the first thing i done on the site was to setup pretty permalinks.

Do i need a multisite install for this to work?

Also if i install just wordpress on its own without buddypress the links are not found either. Im uploading and installing straight to the webserver online if that makes sense, should i be doing this locally first then uploading it to the server?

I tried those solutions on the reinstall last night, the problem seems to be I have no .htaccess file.

I just reinstalled manually tried to set everything up again sstill not working really dont know what to do everything ive read is its ready out of the box but nothing ive tried is working.

Im using the same versions, dont konw were the pages are.
