Using a child theme allows you to make changes to the default theme without fear of losing them when you upgrade BuddyPress.
You don’t need programming knowledge in order to set one up either! 😉

@sagelives Can you provide the error log. That can help to resolve the issue for you. @quirhijn It means forum is working well for you. Yes, that is normal.
