WordPress Origin Story | I’ve been around computers since the mid 80s, but began honing my skills and knowledge as an architectural drafter while attending college in the early 90s. The transition to CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) was in its infancy, but I was all in. I would later embrace the next transition in architecture, from vector-based CAD, to the database driven production of BIM (Building Information Modeling). In 2007, during a slow period of work, I was asked to ‘do something’ with the company website, which a former employee had registered, but never completed. Using the hosting company’s built-in web tools, I managed to create a very simple static website. But that site led to requests for company websites from other small businesses in the area. Soon thereafter, requests for projects increased, resulting in the opportunity to run my own freelance business in 2009. Looking for a more efficient, streamlined, and inexpensive way to create websites, I discovered the open-source world of Joomla, WordPress, and Drupal. The aesthetics and intuitive UI of WordPress were some important factors that led to WordPress becoming my CMS of choice. But it was the support and community that sealed the deal. And that’s still true to this day. |
