@djpaul – a more informative title on your post might help, rather than the general “theme designers: contribute to core”

@boonebgorges – given the bug fix / re-engineering is scheduled for 1.3, I’m guessing the best short term workaround is to hard code our own bespoke user nav

@oneearth – you asked if there was anyway to turn them all off: “Also – is there some way to simply turn off the auto linking within the extended profile fields? “

you can turn them off en masse by removing the appropriate filter – I can’t remember which off the top of my head.

Roger Coathup posted on the forum topic simple:press vs bbPress – which is best option for standalone forums with WordPress in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years ago
@leoplaw – if you check the simple:press forums further, you’ll find there are still outstanding issues in integrating with BuddyPress, around login and roles I think. My understanding is that they are talking about providing a solution in a future version of simple:press

@mercime provides some feedback on this on this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/can-buddypress-function-like-ning-com/
I don’t know what the future plans for BuddyPress are in this regard

BuddyPress only has very limited forum support. A bbpress plugin beta was scheduled for Sept 15 but has not materialised yet.
You are right that this site’s support area would be better served by an independent forum implementation. It’s very difficult to follow threads and find previously discussed topics. -

@hnla – Might work well on the home page – you log in, and the sidebar immediately shows you a set of posts that are targeted to your interests. Personalised content if you like. It’s a useful snippet of code to bring posts relevant to some metadata (in this case an interests list). You could see […]

amongst other things, you are doing an assignment there (=), not a test for equality (==). Bracketing the logical parts that belong together would also make your code easier to read.

@anindyaray – to write your own theme for BuddyPress, you will need to have a basic knowledge of PHP. The PHP ‘if’ statement is fairly fundamental. Checking the tutorial on the PHP site would be a good start: http://www.php.net/manual/en/index.php – then your questions on here can be BuddyPress specific, rather than PHP, allowing this forum to […]

http://clubbelote.com is a new site for players of Belote, the popular french card game. We built the site for our friends at Gampark, and it’s our first launch of a foreign language BuddyPress site. A full release incorporating forums, site reviews and media is scheduled for later this year. What do you love or hate […]

@chestnut_jp – no, we’ve decided to keep our existing installs on 1.2.5., so haven’t encountered the problems. We’ll use 1.2.6 for new sites.
