@kunalb – I suspect EventPress is going to be a very important plugin – congrats on the work.
Given this – It might an idea to make a specific group for EventPress, rather than posting in the general third party components and plugins group
Looking forward to using it. Cheers, Roger

@johnjamesjacoby @hnla @pgibbs – the site is “inundated” with spammers today – other than messaging John is there any way we can help deal with them quicker / better?

Roger Coathup posted on the forum topic What template does this use? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 1 month ago
I think it’s using permalink.php in member/single/activity
IMHO – it’s the most useless page in the standard BuddyPress set up, serving only to look bad and frustrate users who are expecting to see some “added value” when they click on the view link for a status update.
Perhaps there’s a good use for it?

Roger Coathup posted on the forum topic BuddyPress good for Feedback forums? in the group Requests & Feedback: 15 years, 1 month ago
@jeherve – I don’t know about a development blog for the bbPress plugin. You are probably best to ask John James Jacoby directly.
It might be a good idea to ask the question directly in this support forum about reviews / voting. Do a search first to see what other threads are around.

@johnwinch42 Yes, you’ll have to either modify the CSS for the BuddyPress page templates, and / or actually modify the template files (PHP / HTML), depending on how much you want to change the default layout. Don’t make the changes in bp-themes/bp-default though. Instead, it is best to create your own child theme:…[Read more]

@jeherve – there are some exciting developments happening with bbPress, which should help you build your site. A new version of bbPress will work better with BuddyPress to provide the one main forum solution you are looking for, backed up by all the advantages of the BuddyPress social platform for looking after the user base. Roger Coathup posted on the forum topic Blog Theme / Buddypress Theme in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 1 month ago
@johnwinch42 – I think it is a terminology problem: Each page in a WordPress / BuddyPress site can have it’s own template, so for example a template for posts (single.php), for categories (archive.php), etc.. You can even specialise it further, so that different types of posts have different templates and so on. BuddyPress extends WordPress in the […]

As @justbishop touched on, posts with Paypal buttons are fine for occasional sales, but don’t cope with all the reporting, inventory control, complex pricing & delivery rules, tax calculations, configurable products, etc … That you might expect an ecommerce extension to handle for you. An etsy type site might well work though with custom post…[Read more]

Either a standard WordPress page in your main site blog – WP let’s you upload video and image content. There are lots of good WP gallery plugins as well, e.g. Nextgen
If you want member photo albums (like facebook), then look at BP Media+ plugin
p.s. ask the questions in the support forums (tab in menu bar) – update messages don’t often get…[Read more]

@christinarule : unfortunately, I don’t know how to set your links to include index.php, but confused why you would want that? Without the index.php will give you better search engine performance, as well as being more human readable

@john: Your option 1 is a standard BuddyPress install structure. (although themainblog is probably better referred to as sitename) Your second option is in two parts – nameofablog.sitename.com is again the standard BuddyPress / WP subdomain install. buddypress.sitename.com/members/ does not fit in though. It would be http://www.themainblog.com/members as…[Read more]

Is your field definitely called “skills” – no spaces, same capitalisation? Things to try (one at a time): 1. use == instead of === 2. use strcmp() to compare the strings instead of === 3. use the field id function instead of the field name function Good luck. p.s. I’d change your ‘else if’ to […]

There’s definitely some language issue, but his attitude is pretty aggressive in general. I managed to help him out on the problem, but wanted to slam the ‘proverbial phone’ down on several occasions.
@hnla – was glad to see you dealing with the flaming.

If they post to forum threads we can delete them but member created groups are an issue as only admins can deal with those and a range of other issues so at the moment a note has to be dropped to JJJ. This needs to change somehow though and the groups cleaned up as they leave a very bad impression.
Most of the spam this afternoon was link stuffing in their status updates. Page upon page stuffing up the community activity stream, but also polluting with the site search
Yeah… It’s no fun. We need to get bp.org fixed up asap.
