2 languages / do I need 2 installations of BuddyPress ?

    Hi all,

I would like to run a website with 2 languages (english and german).

Do I need to have 2 BP-installations in order to do so ?

I mean: If the user is switching from english to german, then he should also see the german-language blogs, forum-posts, etc.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Erich

You will need to install two or more language translations under bp-languages, but you NEVER NEED two buddypress installations.

    Hi,

are there any reference-websites which are being run in 2 languages and can confirm that ONE BuddyPress-installation is sufficient to be able to run 2 languages ?

    Many thanks,

    Erich

There’s sticky post where everyone posts their urls. Go there, find yourself. If you are lucky, it won’t take time. :)

    @Erich73-

This is really a WPMU issue as the configuration files play a big role in getting multi-language support successfully setup.

Here are a few links that may help:

    http://www.poplarware.com/languageplugin.html

I would contact the people behind these projects and ask them if they’re working on BuddyPress integration.

    Hi Jeff,

I do understand that the backbone of BuddyPress is WPMU.

As WPMU is managed / owned by Automattic, are they planning to make Multi-Language-Versions of WPMU a possibility ?

I do undrestand that this will take some time and therefore stopped the plan for running my website in 2 languages.

    Many thanks,

    Erich

Is it possible to share the LogIn/SignOn between 2 installations of WPMU/Buddypress?

In my case it wouldn’t be a problem if the websites (language1/language2) run each on a seperate installation of WPMU/Buddypress, because i want a strict seperation of the content regarding to its language (webiste1 = language1 = only content written in language1 / website2 = language 2 = only content written in language2).

The only concern that holds me back from this type of multi language setup is the that i want my user to be able to switch between the language1-website and language2-website with only one Login. So if the user is logged in on language1.website.com he should be able to switch to language2.website.com without any additional login (similar to the WPMU/MediaWiKi plugin > https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2912).

    Hi 21green,

I am looking for exactly the same thing.

Is there a developer out there who is able to achieve this ?

    If yes, please contact me.

    Hey Erich,

i know a developer who is able to achieve this. They wrote me a private message on the german buddypress forum as a reply to my post:

    http://forum.wordpress-deutschland.org/buddypress/48801-buddypress-international-benutzerdatenbank-teilen.html

Maybe we could work somehow together to get something suitable for both of us. If you are interested in the developer write me a PM and i sent you the details (you can write in german if you want).
