a new community with 100k users

    Hi guys,
actually my team manage an internal community with around 100k users.
the system and the core are really old and we wanna change it with wordpress and buddypress for the social part
but we have a really large community, especially active on the forum and the groups!!!
do you have idea if wordpress and buddypress can manage so large numbers? can you tell me some best practices with these numbers?
my problem is that when I decide the swithoff/switchon I will have all the existent that will log on in 2 or 3 days and I fear a BIG fall down of the system for some query or script that explode the system when the 10k active user sign in :-/

thanks and best regards from italy :-D

Yes, it works fine. Suggest you do some research in how to scale WordPress, or post on wordpress.org about that. http://Wordpress.tv also has some talks from WordPress conferences about scaling.
