Activity box on static front page – not on sidebar

    objective: to have a short, abbreviated version of the Activity feed in a DIV box in the content area, on a static front page.

    things I’ve tried:

    ATTEMPT 1
    using the activity RSS feed.
    this kind of works, but the problem with this is it doesn’t import the user photos and the styling was a bit problematic. simply lines of text.

    ATTEMPT 2
    using the sidebar widget in the main content area.
    the “Site Wide Activities” sidebar widget option is exactly what I want. I can specify the number of items, it has the same formatting, with clickable options
    unfortunately, I have not been able to crack how to get a sidebar widget into a page content. the afternoon’s googling has turned up a bit about how it’s not possible. anything is possible. I just don’t know how to do it yet. :-)

    I have the php-exe plugin that allows me to add php to page content, so that helps (a lot)
    but sadly, copying/pasting the plugin php crashed everything.
    (didn’t think it would work, but it was worth a try)

    does anyone here have any ideas?
    new options that I haven’t thought of?
    better ways to execute the paths I have?

    many thanks!
