Activity stream based on location

Hi Guys

I am totally new to Buddypress but am loving every moment of it. I am in the process of planning for a website which will be an aviation social networks of sorts which will have the groups acting as a business directory. For now the site will serve only in my country, which is where my question comes in…

When selecting either a city or a province. The activity stream should only contain the posts/listings etc relevant to that city or province.

What determines relevance? A field? Keywords?

Location would determine the relevance. How this would be i achieved, im hoping through Geolocation?

So you want to filter activity items based on geo-data.
Have you looked at https://codex.buddypress.org/?s=activity+loop
Specifically re bp_parse_args and custom filters.

But first, how would you assign geo-data to an activity item?
There is an activity_meta table you should be able to use for storage via bp_activity_update_meta()

Thanks for that shanepb i will most definitely try it out, I was initially thinking about using the GeomyWP plugin but as stated i will try this way first.
