Activity Updates and Internal Server Errors

When I use the activity update features in the Activity Stream, I receive the following error:

    POST https://sandbox.stratics.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 500 (Internal Server Error)jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 sendjquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 m.extend.ajaxmain.js?ver=2.5.15:893 (anonymous function)jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 m.(anonymous function)bp-activity-privacy.js?ver=4.1:130 (anonymous function)jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:3 m.event.dispatchjquery.js?ver=1.11.1:3 r.handle

The update then stalls and takes some amount of time before publishing. The text also never clears from the box. This is confusing to users because they can’t tell if the request went through, so they click multiple times and create duplicate posts. Any thoughts on what is causing this? I use the Kleo Theme.

I believe I found the cause. It was the BuddyPress Activity Privacy plugin. Great plugin, but I can now no longer use it. Has anyone found a work around for the plugin?
