adding new members

I’m planning on importing all of our members into buddypress – around 1,000 people. I will also need to monthly update the information.
While testing importing (using s2Members) I noticed that whenever I import people, they don’t show up as members in buddypress until they login the first time. Upon further research, I’ve discovered this is by design with BuddyPress to prevent spambots.
Although I appreciate the security, this puts me in a bad place. Part of the point of having this on my website was so that our members can search through the member directory so they can connect with other members. That assumes that all 1,000 of my people login first, which just isn’t going to happen.
I moved my whole website over from Joomla to WordPress assuming I’d be able to get BuddyPress to do this (which we could do on our first site).
Anybody have any ideas for me on what to do?
