Adjusting the look and feel of the view profile and edit profile page

can someone point me in the right direction to edit the look of the view profile and edit profile page? For the edit profile, i want to be able to have the checkboxes laid out horizontally, and in columns if possivble. For the View Profile page…. i do not like the layout as well. Is there a design tutorial on this or something i could reference? thank you!
