All My Subscribers can Edit Pages

Am a novice but am using WP 5.03 with Buddypress 4.0 and bbpress 1.5.14. The site is https://908X0.org. It is not live and Registration has been disabled. New users have Subscriber role for buddypress and Participant for Forums. My problem: all new users I have created have the capability to Edit Pages after login. I thought it had something to do with my IP or browser but cleared the browser and sent the link to my site to a friend and he could see the Edit Page text in the admin bar. I disabled every plugin, including bbpress. The bug is still there. I have built an almost identical site that does not have this problem.

I am not a developer or a coder. I can follow explicit instructions to make changes in the C-panel or elsewhere, but most of the time I just expect things to work like they are supposed to. I can generally find solutions or work-arounds but this one has me stumped. I have been unable to find anything on line about this problem. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Perhaps it is your theme ?
Try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2017.

Are you sure that you have not granted edit privileges to subscribers ?
Use a plugin like this to find out:

    User Role Editor

I’m sorry – should have mentioned I tried with twenty-nineteen. I would not know how to give edit privileges to subscribers unless it was accidentally. Thanks for the link to the plugin. I will try that now. Thank you!

Thank you for the plugin! It showed me that you are correct. Somehow a subscriber is able to edit almost everything. Where is that setting? I have looked high and low for it. I know the plugin can take care of it but I would be interested in knowing how to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks! Great help and done very quickly.

In the User Role Editor I have unchecked the edit boxes three times and they keep reappearing after I login a user. The problem still persists. the user is still able to edit pages and posts. I am working on the site in Opera and signing in the user on Chrome. I delete the cache frequently.

In answer to your first question i must have granted edit privileges but don’t know how I would have done that. But the plugin won’t let me change it either. How do I remove those privileges?

Some code on your site is adding those privileges – perhaps on login.
Now that you’ve identified the issue only you, or some developer that you hire, can solve the issue.

The problem is a plugin (a very popular one) and I have contacted the author for help. I turned them all off then activated each one, one by one. It was the very last plugin. When it’s activated it automatically reset the editing privileges in the User Role Editor upon login. Thanks for the guidance on this.
