Any idea how to integrate the Post Update and Post a New Post

At present the Post Update text area is lonely. Is it possible to have Tabs here that add
Post New Post so that the user can directly post a blog (optional)
Similarly plugins like bp album or others that have input can add tabs here so that posting content is easy and intuitive and can be done and seen from the same page.
Any hack / plugin/ idea ?
