bbpress attached to BuddyPress

    I don’t like the way forums are attached to groups within BP and the way they are displayed when I click on the main forum list.

    I like the layout into categories for the normal bbpress, my question then is – can I install bbpress and link it to BP? Is there a guide in any of the codex?

    Yes, you can install bbPress separately and link it to BuddyPress. That is how this site works. There is information on the bbPress site, and many other places. A google search should be fruitful.
