Blogs on my BPsite

    Hello,
    i installed my bp site like 3 days ago.
    I would like to have a site, where all members can have a small blog,
    and everything they post on their blog, is shown on a Home page.
    is there any way to do that?

    @Bonlu – make sure you have WordPress set up for multisite: https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

    Then take a look at the recent site wide posts widget (in your wp-admin backend: appearance… widgets)

    You need to develop your child theme so that it allows for the widget to be embedded on the home page, or take a look at the code in the widget and implement your own version in your home page template;

    Developing your own child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

    Well, i thought it will be everything allright, but when i installed my network just like in that guide, one very big problem appeared.
    I set up all superadmin options, so next step should be installing buddypress right?
    so i downloaded it, went to the “plugins” in my admin panel, clicked “install for all network” and…. CRACK
    wordpress told me “cheatin, uh?” so i logged out, and tried to log in one more time, and nothing.
    i cant log in, when i try to do this wp send me back to my homepage and tell nothing.
    so i tried one more time, and now when im going to mypage/wp-login.php the site is all white,
    theres nothing there. What should i do now?

    Try reinstalling your WP3.0 system again, and see if that works in multisite setup.

    Once that’s fine, try installing BuddyPress using the install automatically option in plugins

    Did it really say “cheatin, uh?”

    The admin says “cheatin, uh?”, I believe, when you try to submit a form or follow a link with a nonce belonging to another user.

    @Boniu Make sure you have a fully working multisite before you install BuddyPress. i.e. permalinks, comments, and so on. To try to resurrect your site, remove the /plugins/ folder then visit /wp-admin/ again.

    Ok, ill try to reinstall it tomorrow, cause it was just test installation :)
    @Roger Coathup , yes, i was laughin a lot :P

    Ah yes, as @djpaul points out – making sure the permalinks work in the base install sans BuddyPress is important. @djpaul – are there any other ‘easter eggs’ lurking under the skin?

    @boniu

    Now, i just removed /plugins directory, checked all permalinks etc. then tried to install buddypress, and…..
    “Cheatin’, uh?”
    Maybe im doing something wrong? i should make a new theme before bp installation?
    now ill make a new clear wp install and try to do it again from the begining :(

    @edit there’s something strange, “network installation” has made a new menu, there are some links like “log in” “sign up” etc.

    “log in” button’s adress is mysite/wp-login.php?redirect_to=mysite/home

    @edit2 made new installation, step-by-step with a guide, and still the same…. any ideas?

    @rogercoathup
    Especially when multisite is installed, I always recommend that people test their WordPress thoroughly; do custom permalinks work, can you comment, can you register new sites, and so on. Usually it’s a permalink or mod_rewrite :)

    @boniu

    well, permalinks, comments, etc are working for sure, how can i check if my mod_rewrite works?

    @ im working on fedora13

    @boniu

    Have you set your WP up for multisite, and tested custom permalinks (e.g. /%category%/%postname%/) ? If they are functioning ok, then your .htaccess / mod_rewrite is probably fine.

    Also, can you create secondary blogs without problem?

    Now try using the automatic install for BuddyPress, and let us know how that goes

    @boniu

    I’ll do it tomorrow cuz i always forget about making my server ftp avaible :/

    hmmm, 2 days before im sure i could made a new user, but now i click “sign up”,
    registration page appears for 1 second, and then:
    “Oops! This page appears broken. HTTP 404 – File not found.”
