bp_signup_email_value()

I have searched BP Documentation, but I can’t figure out where this function is located. @Modemlooper posted information on locating functions 6 years ago, but it seems like that info may be outdated at this point.
He said it was in bp-core-templatetags.php but I can’t find that file on my server. I started searching for the function in random files in the core folder, but with no luck.
This part of the documentation tells us that the function exists, but that’s about it. I’m trying to find out which file it’s contained in, what it does, and if it’s what I’m looking for, then I’ll be looking for a way to over-ride it.
Ultimately, I’m looking for a way to allow users to submit the registration form without an email address, but I’m taking this one step at a time.
If you have no clue at all, please don’t reply to this message, because then people who do have a clue will be less likely to read this message, because they will think that you already gave this person useful info. (Love you guys that do that, but no thanks!)
