Buddypress emacil notifications

I was receiving my email notifications properly, but at some point I unchecked the notification function on my buddypress setting in order to hide the tab, because I needed a less cluttered profile menu.
Then after a while I turned the notification back on. Unfortunately I can not receive any notifications emails any more. All because of unchecking and rechecking the function.
Can you please help? How can I get the notifications back again?
